SALLY & JONATHON Sally and Jonathon met at the local pub on Karaoke night; both of them were there to chaperone friends who had been set up for a blind date. However it was Sally and Jonathon who fell in love. This relaxed fun-loving nature they share as a couple was evident when Jonathon proposed over dinner at Ms. G's in Sydney.
The couple chose to wed at the end of June and being a winter wedding, they selected Porteno in Surry Hills, Sydney as their venue of choice. The cosy warm atmosphere of the Argentinian restaurant played host to both the ceremony and reception, enabling the bridal party and guests to avoid braving the winter weather outside. For a touch of romance, they hired acoustic guitarist Aaron Lyons to play when guests arrived and during the ceremony. As Sally walked down the aisle he played U2’s ‘All I Want Is You.” Adding to the cosy winter theme, the restaurant provided an Argentinian feast with tables full of rich slow cooked meats and various dishes, accompanied with constantly flowing organic Malbec.
Decoration of the venue was kept to a minimum with just flowers used to accentuate the colours of the décor and bridal party. Proteas, wax flowers and gum leaves were in abundance, with a stunning floral garland draped over the banister of the restaurant as the centrepiece. Table decorations were also minimal, as the couple opted instead for gum leaves dripping from the light fixtures to add natural fauna and as to not get in the way of the feasts laid out on the mahogany tables. Sally explained that the Argentinian style architecture of the establishment, mixed with the deep reds and dark sturdy timber finishings served as great inspiration for her choice of wedding colours. Her bridal bouquets mimicked the natural fauna featured, as decorations and her luminous natural makeup with a plum winter lip, accentuated the moody colour palette of the venue.
Sally wore an exquisite long sleeve lace Rue De Seine couture gown and paired it with the Samantha Wills ‘Time To Dance’ headpiece and matching drop earrings instead of a traditional veil. Sally completed the understatedly glamorous look with an elegant low bun.
Her maid-of-honour wore a Ginger and Smart dress with a floral panel set against navy, with the Samantha Wills ‘You Are All I See’ Ear Cuffs to create a glamorous, yet edgy look. The groom wore a tailored navy suit by The Suit Shop with a Hugo Boss tie and his best man wore a navy Peter Jackson suit.
The couple decided on a decadent buttercream ribbon cake for dessert from All Things Sweet by Carissa, invitations by Hanging Willow at Etsy, and photography by Mitch Pohl who provided them with incredibly natural and candid images of the day. Sally and Jonathan completed their wedding celebrations in style with a two-month honeymoon to Europe and finishing in Bali.
