Last night I flew into Sydney, from the Maldives; and I'm already planning on when we can return to paradise. There are very few times I can remember, being absolutely breath taken, but arriving at the newest Club Med property; Finolhu Villas, about a 30 minute speed boat ride from Male airport, sure had me lost for words and catching my breath.
Officially opening on January 31st, 2015, this truly spectacular property, design by world renowned architect Yugi Yamakazi, is not only the ultimate in luxury accommodation, it is the very first, 100% solar run resort in the Maldives. From the electricity, air conditioning and hot water, to run the entire property produces zero emissions. It truly is the ultimate in Eco-luxury.
Arriving by speedboat, the crystal Aqua waters will have you wide eyed, they are a color so purely electric, I don't believe you could Pantone match it if you tried. Once at Finholu (which has only 52 villas on the entire island) you will be greeted by the resort's General manager, and, wait for it; your very own, personal butler.
Our villa was one of the over water bungalows, each bungalow designed to bring the outdoors in, with the ocean facing walls made to slide away, so you are inviting the ocean into the living space and bedroom, which also flows through to a bohemian luxe outdoor bathroom, so you can shower to the sound track of little lapping waves, kissing the stilts of your bungalow. Incredibly private, and each with its own private plunge pool, one of my favorite things about the villa, is the back staircase that literally takes you from the back deck into the ocean.
Club Med is known for its 'All inclusive' concepts; the price you pay includes all your food and beverage. But if you are looking for mediocre buffet food and a basic bar - you won't find that here. Dining is done in an over water restaurant. The restaurant bar has a glass floor, so you can see the sealife beneath, and the only buffet is for some lunch services that bring out their best chefs to prepare the day's fresh catch, or seafood pasta in front of you. The ala carte menu changes daily, and offers many 5 star options, across four courses.
If, like us, you also want to add in some adventure to your relaxation, I would highly recommend booking in to go Scuba Diving. Whether you are a beginner or expert diver, Maldives diving is world class, as are the Club Med Dive team. We did 5 dives on our stay at Finholu, each more breathtaking then the rest. The best way to describe it, is it feels like you are in Finding Nemo - such is the color of the reef and fish you swim with. There are many activities to do on and around the disband, all at your own pace and leisure; Diving, jet skiing, snorkeling, parasailing...or enjoy the beautiful Spa...or do what we did, and have the spa come to you, where they set up the massage bed on the deck of your villa....
I could go on and on about the incredible experience that we had, but you need to go and experience it for yourself. The Maldives is a place dreams of made of, and a quick Google search will show you accommodations available for all budget types. But if you wish to experience it in the most luxurious way, you cannot go past Club Med Finholu Villas.
Journey into paradise. –SWx
