WILLOW PATTERN

My Nan collected enough Willow pattern crockery to set a table for a small country. From the sugar bowl, vase, jug, 16-piece plate setting and garden ornaments – everything was Willow patterned.

With Nan now living in a cute little unit, over the years her huge collection has been given away. But she recently gave me a few loose pieces she still had, and I love the mix-and-match nature of what she had kept – all Willow patterned, but none matching. I will be adding them to my beautiful Japanese blue skull plates (pictured below). This post is inspired by and dedicated to my Nan and her long-time love for everything Willow patterned.

For wedding décor, Willow pattern is a really beautiful way to incorporate ‘something blue’. It has been around for centuries, but having it on your wedding table brings something very modern-bohème. Whether you choose plates or accents such as sugar bowls or butter dishes, or maybe even placing mismatched Willow patterned vases, it will be beautifully striking. If you know someone who is a Willow pattern collector, you could cross off two traditions in one go – by calling in a favor to use their collection on your special day, you have sorted your ‘something borrowed’ and ‘something blue’. - SWx
